Summer Holidays!

The summer holidays are nearly upon us and we are shooting off early for a quick break, the workshops will be manned but there will be no material collections and the office will be closed from Friday 15th July until we open again on Monday 24th.

Wednesday 12th July will be our last day open until Monday 24th – we are here from 9.00am until 12.00 pm for any last minute material collections.

The Threshing Barn Project

Join us in May for a series of free heritage building workshops and open access days!

During the month of May we are repairing our beautiful 170 year old stone threshing barn, one of the curtilage agricultural buildings of grade 2* listed Plas Tirion.  The repairs will be carried out using traditional techniques and materials and we are inviting people to join us for a series of free workshops and open access days to view the work, speak to the craftsmen and see them at work. You can even  assist them, we have available a limited number of free training places, to work alongside the expert craftsmen and learn specialist skills for the repair of heritage buildings.  Please see other course listings for places in Heritage Carpentry, Hot Mixing and applying Lime and Traditional Slate Roofing.

We are opening up the site to the public in a series of open access days – 15th, 22nd & 29th May – no need to book just turn up anytime between the hours of 10.00 and 3.00.

All are welcome to come and talk to the specialist craftsmen and see them at work, watch the progress of the traditional repair of a beautiful example of vernacular architecture and learn about our work here at NBC.

May Course Offer!

Book a place on our weekend walling course May 6th/7th and bring a friend along for free.

The more the merrier! Bring a friend along of free on our May weekend walling course and enjoy good company, whilst learning a useful skill, working outdoors in glorious spring sunshine all weekend (we hope) in the grounds of our beautiful Tudor house.  Further details can be found on the Training/courses page of the website.

Forest & Timber

We are happy to let you know that we have our new sawmill up and running and are now able to supply local rough sawn timber, from our forest three miles away.

The forest is a large area of mixed woodland which Neds father has been managing for the last twenty years.  By clear felling areas of Larch, Spruce and Douglas Fir he has been able to single handedly replant areas with thousands of native hardwoods.  His many years of hard work is paying off and the forest is now a beautiful environment, full of wildlife.  We saw it at its best today, in warm spring sunshine, watching a woodpecker drumming on a dead branch.

We are able to cut to order, to your measurements, Larch and Douglas Fir and will build up an available stock of useful lengths and dimensions.

When and how to get in touch with us!

A few people have missed seeing our opening hours here on the site, so here is how and when you can get hold of us.

Our office and warehouse are officially open for advice and sales of materials Mondays and Fridays from 9.00 until 5.00 and Wednesdays from 9.00 until 12.00. Out side of those hours we are often here and may answer the phone and will always reply to emails within a day.

You can also arrange by appointment to collect materials throughout the week, and on Saturday mornings by appointment.

On our closed days we are busy doing site visits, running training days, working on conservation projects, milling our timber or catching up with paperwork!
